En el reinado de Don Bermudo II era rico-home en Asturias Gutierre Osorio Duque, y gozaba la dignidad de conde; y este apellido o denominacion de Estrada, entendemos haberla tomado porque la torre, casa y primitivo solar de esta familia, que se halla en las Asturias de Santillana, a una legua de distancia de San Vicente de la Barquera, está contiguo a unas calzadas o caminos reales que llaman Estradas, y de aquí tuvo lugar aquella copla que dice: ¨Yo soy la casa de Estrada, fundada en este peñasco, mas antigua en la montaña que la casa de Velasco¨; porque por la inmediación que tiene a las referidas calzadas o Estradas, llamaron al solar y torre de Estrada Beremudo Armentariz. Casó con Doña Palla, señora de la primera nobleza de Asturias, descendiente de sangre real, y que tiene repetidas memorias (así ella como su marido) en el reinado de Don Alonso V, y las continúan hasta Don Fernando I: fué muy heredada en Asturias, y ella y su marido constituyeron en sus descendientes las familias de Estradas, Villamar y Busto, y otras que de ella procedieron. Tuvieron por hijo primogénito a Martin Bermudez, y por segundo a Sancho Bermudez, de los cuales hay memoria en los instrumentos de la santa iglesia de Oviedo hasta los años de 1070. No dicen los instrumentos con quien fué casado, pero se infiere sin esfuerzo que fué su mujer la heredera de la casa de Estrada, descendiente de los antiguos próceres de esta familia del apellido Duque y de el de Estrada. Apellido de origen castellano. Procede del lugar de Estrada, ayuntamiento de Val de San Vicente, partido judicial de San Vicente de la Barquera, en la provincia de Santander. Una rama pasó a Asturias donde tuvieron casa en diversos concejos, tales como en Viyao (Piloña), San Julián de Bimenes, Collada de Ruenes (Peñamellera), Llanes, Siero, Bimenes y en Oviedo.
