Famiglia antica, di singolare distinzione, originaria di Levanto nella Riviera Ligure. Ne é cenno in quegli ordinati fino dal secolo XIV, nella presona di Domenico Faraggiana, firmatario degli statuti comunali, del 9 maggio 1389. Nel secolo XVIII i fratelli Antonio Maria (n. 21 giugno 1696) e Simone Maria (n. 17 novembre 1700), avendo dimostrato dinanzi al vicario e giudice ordinario di Levanto, Giovanni Battista Riparola, la veridicità e l'esatezza del loro albero genealogico, col quale provavano di discendere dal suddetto Domenico Faraggiana, ottennero l'iscrizione delle rispettive famiglie alla nobiltà di Sarzana con diploma del 10 dicembre 1753.
