Linaje de inmemorial antigüedad, con solar entre los ríos Barcelos y Faón, en la tierra llamada Oferina, en Portugal. En la casa de los Condes de Villaflor se conservaba una medalla que se encontró junto a Mertola en el año de 1634, acuñada en Roma en memoria de Nuño de F. hace más de veinte siglos. De esta moneda hacen mención Manuel de F. y Sousa, en sus notas al "Nobiliario del Conde Don Pedro", y el Chantre de la Catedral de Evora, Manuel Severín de F., en uno de sus manuscritos. Una línea de esta familia portuguésa de F. se estableció en Madrid, siendo jefe de ella Francisco Felipe de F., natural de Lisboa, caballero de la Orden de Cristo y esposo de doña Inés de Mendoza Guzmán, de la misma naturaleza. Estos cónyuges pasaron a Madrid de Meninos de la Emperatriz Isabel, mujer de Carlos Vargas. Fué su hijo el Licenciado Juan F. Guzmán, natural de Madrid, que casó con doña María de Hermosilla, natural de Baena, y fueron padres de Marcelino F. Guzmán y Hermosilla, natural de la villa de Iznájar, del partido judicial de Lucena (Córdoba), Oidor de la Real Chancillería de Granada y caballero de la Orden de Santiago, en la que ingresó el 16 de Marzo de 1657. Esta líne madrileña de F. entroncó con la familia de Vargas, descendiente del famoso Iván de Vargas, cuyas tierras cultivó San Isidro Labrador.
