Fernando passou a Portugal Gonçalo F., que alguns autores dizem se chamava em Espanha Gonçalo F., o que é pouco aceitável. Veio na companhia do Conde de Castro Xerez, D. Fernando de Castro, que, indo para Inglaterra, lhe recomendou um filho, que aqui deixava. Foi cidadão de Lisboa e do matrimónio deixou dois filhos, por quem se propagou o apelido. No ano de 1485 homisiou-se em Portugal, por morte de homem praticada em Alcalá de Henares, Lopo de la Higuera, bacharel natural de Toledo, filho de Fernão de la Higuera, vassalo de D. Henrique IV de Castela, ou de Álvaro Fernandes de la Higuera, secretário dos Reis D. João e D. Henrique IV, como informam certas fontes. Foi naturalizado por D. João II de Portugal, por Carta de 6-VII-1486. Recebeu-se com Isabel Dias Tamayo, filha de Afonso ou Álvaro Dias Tamayo, e dela houve larga geração, que se espalhou pelo Minho e Alentejo.
