Nobilissima ed antichissima famiglia oriunda normanna che il Villabianca, e non à guari il Ricca, dicono essere stata portata in Napoli da un Angerio normanno valoroso guerriero, seguito avendo le bandiere del duca Roberto Guiscardo verso il 1045, quindi per le sue gloriose gesta denominato coll'epiteto di strenuissimi viri ed ottenne da Ruggiero duca di Puglia il Castello di S. Adjutore fra la città di Salerno e di Nocera. I di lui figli Roberto, Guglielmo, Ruggiero, e Tancredi, volendo eternare le glorie del padre loro si dissero da quel momento filii Angerii, d'onde Filingieri o Filangieri. Questa famiglia si distese in Napoli secondo il Campanile e l'Ammirato: ne' conti di Marsico e di Satriano, Conti d'Avellino, signori di Vetri di Lapizio ed altri.
