Secondo il Villabianca (Sicilia Nobile, vol. IV, p. 523) la famiglia Francica è originaria di Francia e vanta a capostipite un Sinibaldo "che fu custode dell'imperial gabinetto di Arrigo VI" e governatore della Calabria nel 1196 e che avendo fabbricato una città in un feudo in detta regione posseduto "dagli avanzi di alcune truppe Franzesi, che la popolarono chiamò Francica, e da cui anche Francica cognominò la sua discendenza". Lasciando al Villabianca la responsabilità di tali affermazioni, diciamo che la famiglia Francica pare sia passata in Sicilia nella prima metà del sec. XV stabilendosi in Lentini e in Siracusa. Assunse il cognome Nava, perchè succeduta a detta antica famiglia nel possesso dei feudi da detta famiglia posseduti. Una Desiata Francica del fu Marco, da Lentini, con privilegio del 14 giugno 1621, ottenne per sè e suoi il titolo di Don; un Giacinto, per il matrinonio con Diana Nava e Scammacca, ...
