Il ramo di Ferrara fu decorato del titolo di Conte e Cavaliere. Il ramo umbro ebbe il titolo di Conte di Melace e Signore di Rocca Accarina (m.f.) per successione Maritali nomine ai Conti Castelli, Signori di Terni, di cui aggiunse il cognome, che vantano capostipite in Italia Remigio, Principe di Terni, figlio del Duca Etanno della Real Casa di Franconia. Questa famiglia ha dato alla Chiesa un Santo: Santo Anastasio; un Papa: Cleestino II (Guido Castelli) (vedi Francesco Zazzera, "Della Nobiltà d'Italia", 1615). Questa Casata vestì ripetutamente l'abito di Malta e Santo Stefano. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in occasione dei tornei, e durante i tornei stessi. Il motto era un pensiero espresso in poche parole facente allusione a un sentimento palese o nascosto, a una qualità, a un ricordo storico, per stimolo al coraggio o onore.
