Tuvo su primitivo solar en la anteiglesia de Galarza (cuyo nombre tomó), perteneciente al Valle de Léniz y partido judicial de Vergara (Guipúzcoa). Así lo aseguran Miguel de Salazar y otros tratadistas. De ese solar dimanaron otras casas del mismo apellido en Guipúzcoa, sitas en el mismo Valle de Léniz, en la villa de Vergara, en la de Arechavaleta, Oñate y Anzuola, del partido judicial de Vergara y en la ciudad de Fuenterrabía. En Vizcaya también hubo casas de G., en Bilbao, en la Merindad de Busturia, partido judicial de Guernica, y en la villa de Larrabezúa, del partido de Bilbao. Otra radicó en la villa de Amurrio (Álava). A Navarra pasaron ramas de G., dimanadas de la casa guipuzcoana de Amézqueta. Una moró en la villa de Echarri-Aranaz y otra en Pamplona. Otras se extendieron por la Rioja. Otras ramas vascongadas del apellido que nos ocupa se establecieron en la villa de Villabrágima, del partido judicial de Medina de Ríoseco y provincia de Valladolid, en Salamanca y en la villa de Bonilla, del partido judicial de Huete (Cuenca), extendiéndose esta última por Extremadura. Por Real despacho de 18 de Mayo de 1699 se concedió el título de Conde de la Oliva del Gaitán, a José de G. Suárez de Toledo. Lo heredó doña Cayetana de G., que en 1746 casó con Vicente Manuel de Aguilera, duodécimo Marqués de Cerralbo, a cuya casa quedó incorporado el mencionado título. ...
