Already in the 12th century, the nobleman Pedro Galvão flourished, who died on August 12, 1179 and was buried in the monastery of Santa Marinha da Costa, in front of the altar of the Chapter, where Donna Maria Pais, his wife, was also buried. Their only son, Don Paio Galvão, was educated in the same monastery. He embraced the religion, professing it in 1178, and was a person of high rank, becoming a cardinal.
