Maison originaire d'Hainaut. Elle fut anoblie en 1518 par l'empereur Maximilien 1er d'Allemagne, par lettres d'anoblissement données à Jean Gaudemar ou Godemar, conseiller du prince Charles, dans le Hainaut, elles furent enregistrées en la chambre des comptes du roi à Lille, et figurent au recueil de la noblesse publié à Lille en 1715, par le Roux, roi d'armes. L'ortographe de son nom changea en Provence, où elle venit s'établir vers la fin du XVIème siècle, par l'effet de la langue provençale. C'est dans cette dernière province qu'elle se distingua par ses alliances et par les services qu'elle rendit à l'État dans la robe comme dans l'épée; elle fut inscrite en 1689 au registre nobilitas tenu à la cour des comptes de Provence, de cette époque à 1790. Bazile, Pierre et Claude de Gaudemar occupérent successivement la charge de procureur du roi au siège général, civil et criminel de l'ex-amirauté des mers du levant à Marseille. Joseph, officier du régiment du roi, le 17 novembre 1695, fut commandant d'artillerie au département d'antibes. Pierre Pomponne et Joseph-Marie-Thérèse Gaudemar, chevaliers de Saint-Louis, furent, l'un capitaine au régiment de Champagne, l'autre capitaine d'artillerie.Cette maison a contracté des alliances avec les Colbert Tugis, les Damas, les Rapally, etc. Parmi les représentants actuels on trouve: Claude-Marie-Joseph-Edouard, né à Marseille le 21 mai 1803, marié le 7 septembre 1853 à Marie-Rose-Joséphine de Boutiny.
