Erano immatricolati all'arte dei pizzicagnoli e se ne trova notizia fin dal 1335, in un testamento di Pietro, di Goro con cui esso lasciava un legato all'Ospedale della Scala. Stefano Gori, frate dell'Ordine dei Servi, veniva poco dopo creato vescovo di Bari da Papa Benedetto XII. Il primo individuo di questa stirpe che si sappia aver goduto incarichi pubblici fu Janni, di Goro, che nel 1378 fu inviato come commissario della repubblica per prendere possesso di Talamone; la missione però riuscì male, perché Janni fu fatto prigioniero dal comandante del castello, che ne teneva la guardia in nome del papa. Nel 1401 Goro, di Francesco, ottenne il priorato, e nel 1428 Pietro, suo fratello, fu creato uno dei tre ufficiali della Balia di Talamone, che in quell'epoca era pienamente sottomesso a Siena.
