Ancient and noble Sicilian family, of Greek origin, known as Grisafi or Crisafi, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. The forefather traditionally attributed to the Crisafi family is the Byzantine general Giorgio Maniace (998-1043). In fact, the family took its name from his son, Crisafo, who was left with his wife Teopapa in Syracuse, because of his rebellion against the emperor Constantine IX Monomaco.
