Famille très anciennement connue en Forez, où elle est mentionné dans les terriers de la seigneurie de St-Marcellin dressés au XIVème siècle. Filiation établie par acte notarié, reçu Me du Fromenta, notaire à Lyon le 29 décembre 1772, depuis Claude Harent, notaire royal à St-Marcellin-en-Forez en 1545. Sa posterité a formé deux branches à la fin du XVIIème siècle. L'ainée est issue de Jean Harent, procureur fiscal de la châtellenie de St-Marcellin, qui eut pour fils: Balthazar établi à Lyon où il épousa Catherine Burlat, d'où postérité. Guillaume Harent, frère cadet de Jean, commissaire à terriers, du lieu de Cornillon en forez, s'allia à Ennemonde Ronnat de la Gaunière dont: Jean-Jacques notaire royal et commissaire à terriers, fixé à Allègre, où il épousa le 15 février 1731, Marie Grangier, fille de Jacques et de Delphine Boutaud de la Clède. Leur descendance encore représentée compte: un avocat en parlement; plusieurs notaires royaux, l'un d'eux: André-Régis Harent, député du Tiers aux assemblées préparatoires aux États généraux, administrateur de la Hte-Loire en 1790, et deux officiers tués à l'ennemi: André Harent capitaine de la garde impériale, officier de la Légion d'honneur, qui reçut quatre blessures pendant la campagne de Saxe et mourut à la bataille du Mont-St-Jean, âgé de 28 ans (1815); et Antoine dit Antonin Harent, lieutenant d'infanterie, officier d'ordonnance du général de Failly, chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, blessé mortellement à l'attaque du Mamelon-Vert devant Sébastopol (1855). ...
