Apellido patronímico, derivado del nombre propio Hernando. y muy difundido por España. Algunos H. navarro fueron naturales de la villa de Espronceda, en el partido judicial de Estella. En el año 1760, José H. de Oroquieta, y sus hijos Joaquín y Rafael H., vecinos y naturales de Luquín, en el mismo partido judicial de Estella, solicitaron ser declarados nobles por los Tribunales de Navarra, como descendientes de la mencionada casa de Espronceda. Obtuvieron sentencia confirmatoria. Otra casa navarra hubo en el lugar de Meoz, del Ayuntamiento de Lónguida, y partido judicial de Aoiz, y a ella perteneció Pedro H., Aam, doctor, que pasó a Zaragoza y obtuvo firma de hidalguía el 4 e Junio de 1649. En Vizcaya radicaron casas de H. en el barrio de Ibarrondo, ed Ayuntamiento de Ceberio y partido judicial de Durango, y en el lugar de San Julián de Musques, del partido judicial de Valmaseda. Descendieron de la primera casa Juan Manuel, Gabriel José y Pedro H. hermanos, vecinos de Cádiz, y de Vallodolid, que el 22 de Septiembre de 1783 y el 29 de diciembre de 1790, obtuvieron declaración de vizcainía en la Real Chancillería de Valladolid. Fué de la segunda casa Mateo H. Urcullu, bautizado en San Julián de Musques, el 11 de diciembre de 1759, y que obtuvo igualmente declaración de vizcainía el 22 de Enero de 1795. Otra casa hubo en la villa de Munaga. en Álava. Entre los primeros habitantes de Güimar, en Tenerife, figura Gaspar, último soberano guanche de Abona, llamado Adxoña, que al bautizarse tomó aquel nombre y apellido. Casó con Doña Mencía Bencomo, hija de Don Cristóbal Bencomo, rey guanche de Taoro y de Doña María Díaz Bencomo, hija del príncipe guanche de Güimar, Andrés de Llarena, y de su mujer Doña María de Lugo descendiente directo del último soberano indígena de Adeje, llamado Pelinor antes de bautizarse. También vivió en aquella época Rodrigo H. Guanarteme, guanche de Gran Canaria, pariente cercano del Rey guanche de Gáldar Don Fernando Guanarteme.
