Nobility crown HuerterFamília flamenga que passou à ilha do Faial no século XV, proveniente de Bruges e cujo apelido de origem é Hurtere, do qual se encontram variadíssimas deturpações nos escritos portugueses, assinalando-se Huerta, Huerter, Huter, Hutra, Dutra, Utra, Ultra, Dultra, Huertere, Hutre, Urtere, Hortere e Utrecht. Josse ou Joost ou Jobst de Hurtere ou van Hurtere, panadeiro, apaniguado ou saquiteiro de D. Isabel, duquesa de Borgonha, filha do Rei de Portugal D. João I, foi o primeiro que teve a capitania ou donataria de ilha do Faial e a povoou, por mercê de 21 de Fevereiro de 1468, que a ele e seus descendentes fez o infante D. Fernando, sobrinho e herdeiro do Infante D. Henrique. Foi cavaleiro da Casa do Duque de Viseu, o Infante D. Henrique. Os Hurtere eram governadores e senhores da terra de Wynendael, aldeia de Flandres Ocidental (Franc-de-Bruges). Deste senhorio dependiam quatrocentos pequenos feudos. Josse de Hurtere era filho de Léo de Hurtere e neto de outro de igual nome. Com ele passaram ao Faial seu irmão Balduíno de Hurtere, seu primo António de Hurtere, mais parentes e conterrâneos. Josse de Hurtere casou com Brites de Macedo, criada de D. Beatriz, mãe de D. Manuel I, a qual era filha de Jerónimo Fernandes. Deste matrimónio provém parte dos Utras, pois outros procedem da Josina de Hurtere, irmã (?) de Josse de Hurtere, casada con Nuno Fernandes, e de Balduino de Hurtere, também irmão. ...
