Família originária da cidade de Verdun, na Lorena, que passou a Portugal na pessoa de Duarte Cláudio H., que nasceu na cidade de Fresne, no ducado de Lorena, em 1614, e morreu em Portugal cerca de 1671. Foi camareiro-mor de D. Duarte de Bragança, irmão de D. João IV, perto de nove anos, acompanhando o Infante durante todo o tempo que esteve prisioneiro dos espanhóir em Milão. Foi armado cavaleiro por aquele Infante, a quem pediu que o crismasse com o nome de Duarte, que juntou ao de Cláudio H., usado anteriormente, e por tal motivo, como afilhado, lhe pedia a bênção todos os dias. O Infante, ao fazer testamento, o presenteou com algumas jóias de valor e lhe pediu que fizesse trasladar seu corpo, depois de morto, para a Pátria, que nunca esquecera. A 5-V-1650 chegou Duarte Cláudio H. a Portugal, entregando o testamento do Infante a seu irmão o Rei D. João IV. Este príncipe, atendendo aos serviços que ele prestara ao Infante, lhe fez diversas mercês, entre as quais a de comendador de S. Salvador de Tangil na Ordem de Cristo e a de fidalgo da Casa Real. Duarte Cláudio H. era filho segundo de Vicente H., senhor de Jussenit e da casa de H., no ducado da Lorena, e de Catarina Simon de la Pier, da família Dufresne, senhores de Ducange, neto paterno de Cristóvão H., senhor de Jussenit, e de sua mulher e parenta Ana Sillet; bisneto de Vicente H., senhor de Jussenit e governador de Metz, e de sua mulher Júlia Cláudia, que dizia descender dos Cláudios romanos. ...
