E' memorata d'antichissimi scrittori questa famiglia, così detta per corruttione di lingua trà le più antiche, e celebere famiglie d'Europa, e specialmente Gio: Pietro de Crescenzi Romano ampliamente di lei ne tratta. Però il suo passaggio di Napoli in Sicilia fù l'anno 1300. in circa, in tempo del Rè Aragonese Federico II. e quella di Napoli, e la stessa, che visse in Roma, Piacenza, e in Fiorenza, Città, celebri d'Italia, dove have fatto grandissimi progressi per via dell'armi, e delle lettere, e d'altre virtuose attioni. Hor dunque di lei in Sicilia, fù celebre Sergio Rizzolo, ò Riccioli, nel 1321. appo il Rè Feerico II. e del Rè Pietro II. suo figlio. il quale gli diede il carico di fortificare il Castello di Trapani, con ordine alli giurati di essa Città, che gli dovessero dare ogn'anno 400. scudi d'oro per la detta fortificatione, fino alla totale perfettione di quella, come più ...
