Originally from the region of Auvergne, this noble House owned the lordship of Lachenal, since at least the XVI century. We remember in fact a Jacques Lachenal, lord of Lachenal, flourishing in 1531. During the XVII century the family moved to Savoy, where in the year 1697, received confirmation of its nobility with letters patent. This House also had many possessions in Switzerland and when it split into two branches, one settled in Basel, the other in Geneva. From the first we remember Werner Lachenal (Basel, October 23, 1736 - October 4, 1800), of Johann Jakob Lachenal (1708-1749), famous professor of anatomy and botany at the University of Basel, where he was rector in 1783-84 and 1795-96.
