Apellido de origen vasco descendiente de una Casa de notorios hijosdalgo, en el Valle de Oyarzun, (Guipúzcoa). De esta Casa descendían José Joaquín de L., que obtuvo Real provisión de hidalguía en la Chancillería de Valladolid el 2 de marzo de 1794, y José Antonio de L. que se estableció en América, Ecuador, donde dejó larga descendencia. Otros caballeros probaron su nobleza en la Juntas del Señorío de Vizcaya. Los L. tinerfeños, descienden del referido Valle de Oyarzun y por línea directa de Don José Joaquín de L. y Arbide y Don Agustín de L. y Olaizola, ambos de probada Hidalguía. Don Juan Ignacio de L. y Zabala, nacido en San Sebastían el 4 de Julio de 1720, se trasladó a Tenerife, siendo muy joven, acompañado a sus parientes los hermanos Empara n, Don Francisco, Comandante General de Canarias y su hermano Antonio, que llegaron en 1735. Dedicóse a las Milicias ocupando importantes empleos de Subteniente y Capitán en el Regimiento de Infanteria de Icod. Contrajo nupcias el 10 de Agosto de 1752, con Doña Lorenza Clemencia Pastor de Castro, nacida en el Puerto de la Cruz el 22 de noviembre de 1729, de la que tuvo dos hijos, continuando la línea Don Juan Francisco de L. y Pastor de Castro, que fue Oficial Mayor de la Administración de Reales Rentas Unidas de las Islas. Nació el 24 de junio de 1753 en Santa Cruz de Tenerife y casó en La Laguna, el 19 de julio de 1778, con Doña María de la Condelaria Carta y Garcés, nacida en Santa Cruz el 26 de Septiembre de 1760. ...
