Muy antigua familia de Guipúzcoa, derivada de la de Balda o Valda, en Azcóitia, que se estableció en la villa de Zumárraga, donde erigió la casa torre de L. Jáuregui, usando sus caballeros indistintamente los apellidos de L. y Zumárraga. El primer varón de quien hay noticia fué Bernar Ibáñez de Legazpia, que vivío por los años de 1320. Su hijo, Lope Bernardez de Zumárraga figura como vecino de Tolosa en el padrón de 1346. García López de Zumárraga, fué Alcalde Mayor de Areria en 1384, en que entró por escritura de 4 de Febrero, en la vecindad de la villa de Segura, por sí y por sus herederos, obligándose a contribuir en el Concejo de la mencionada villa con los bienes muebles y raíces y ganados que poseía en las collaciones de Zumárraga y Lazcano. Un año antes, Juan García de Zumárraga firmó, como testigo de calidad, la escritura de unión de los habitantes de la collación de Zumárraga, a Villarreal de Urrechu, en la que no entraron los L. Jáuregui. Martín de Zumárraga era vecino de Segura en 1374, y Pedro López de Zumárraga, de Mondragón, en 1390. Doña Mayora de Zumárraga, viuda de Juan Pérez de Urbizu, vendió por sí y por sus hijas, doña María Joan y doña Toda, al Concejo de Segura, del que eran vecinas, la piedra de la torre y peña alta de Aspillaga, en 1410. Juan de Z., fué Mayoral de la Cofradía de San Andrés de Segura, en 1433. Ochoa Pérez de Zumárraga, Arcipreste de Léniz, en 1450. Pedro de Zumárraga, Jurado de Salinas, en 1461, y Sancho Ochoa de Zumárraga, en 1415. ...
