Il conte Carlo Bullo in un suo breve studio "I Brandis del Friuli", Udine, 1899, sostiene che questa famiglia sia un ramo dei conti del Tirolo e cita a prova di ciò il necrologio capitolare di Cividale (museo di Cividale) che alla data 1295 direbbe: "Obiit nobilis miles Brandilisius de B. qui fuit de Tyrol". Ora alla data citata non c'è niente e alla data 1245 si leggono invece le seguenti parole: "Dominus Brandilisis miles MCCXXXXV". Ciò fa supporre che il Bullo, storico coscienzioso, sia stato tratto in errore da qualche fantasioso copista.
