La famiglia appartiene da tempo notevole alla nobiltà tarantina. Nella chiesa di San Pietro Imperiale ottenne, nell'anno 1616, il patronato con diritto di sepoltura. La nobiltà generosa le fu riconosciuta con diploma del re di Napoli Ferdinando IV, il 17 luglio 1793. Sono imparentati per matrimonio con gli Ayala-Valva, con i Ciampolini Aldobrandini, con i Politi Oristanio e con i Ferrara. Ricordiamo un Domenico, uno Giacomo, con i rispettivi figli: Clara, Caterina, Francesco e Lodovico, ed i fratelli di Domenico: Francesco, Cataldo, Maddalena, Carlo, Anna e Gaetano. La famiglia ottenne l'ammissione per giustizia nel Sovrano Militare Ordine Costantiniano di S. Giorgio. E' stata riconosciuta nella avita nobiltà con Decreto Presidenziale 20 dicembre 1923.
