Famiglia di Cefalonia assai antica e nobile. I Lo Verde contribuirono non poco, con le loro azioni militari e civiche, allo sviluppo marittimo e commerciale della Repubblica veneta, lungo la costa dalmata e nell'Arcipelago greco. Si vuole che un membro della famiglia rifugiatosi a Cefalonia, dopo il suo matrimonio con una Matrakas, sia divenuto possessore di vaste tenute. Ad ogni modo questa famiglia compare nell'isola dopo il 1207, ove ebbe non pochi privilegi. Il primo arcivescovo di Cefalonia fu Benedetto Lo Verde, detto anche Geradime, ed altri membri della sua famiglia lo seguirono nella carriera ecclesiastica. A Lepanto (1571) Agapito, sopra-comito di galera, strappò trionfalmente al nemico una bandiera. I Lo Verde sedettero nel Consiglio nobile di Cefalonia accanto ai più notabili del luogo, quali i nobili Annino, Valsamachi, Tipaldo, il conte Zuane dalla Decima e molti altri, ed occuparono le più importanti cariche. Per tali loro benemerenze il Doge di Venezia Alvise Mocenigo nel 1725 concesse ai Lo Verde il titolo di conte.
