Pur non trovando un riscontro negli archivi di Stato, la famiglia risulta fregiata di numerosi titoli nobiliari: Nobili, Signori, Decurioni, Baroni, Marchesi e Principi. Si tramanda che essa discenda da un ramo cadetto dei sovrani di Norvegia. Costante fu poi il possedimento di feudi, sui quali ebbero investitura di molti titoli.
