La chiara nobiltà della famiglia è testimoniata dalla sua presenza in numerosi documenti, conservati presso Archivio Segreto di Stato del Patrimonio Culturale Prussiano a Berlino-Dahlem, oltre che dal suo essere riportata nell'opera araldica "Johann Siebmachers allgemeines großes und vollständiges Wappenbuch", essenziale riferimento per la conoscenza della nobiltà del Sacro Romano Impero. Capostipite del casato vuolsi sia lo stampatore, traduttore e pastore polacco Johannes (1482-1567) che da Sandecki si portò nella Prussia Orientale. Su concessione del duca Alberto di Prussia fu prima nominato arciprete di Lick, ove ricevette in proprietà una tenuta, e poi, sempre su concessione del duca, il 16 ottobre 1544, ricevette alcune terre sul lago Rygiel.
