Antichissima ed assai nobile prosapia italiana, con insediamenti maggiori in Emilia-Romagna ed in Campania, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi nel corso dei secoli anche in altre regioni d'Italia. Conosciuta come Mamoli, Mammoli o Mammolo, le prime notizie riguardo ad essa si rinvengono in Reggio Emilia. Sul calare del secolo XVI fioriva infatti un Lodovico, il quale fu padre di un altro Lodovico che, nel 1627, era medico a Reggio; professione che nella famiglia fu seguita per tre generazioni.
