Aus der Toskana stammend von der Pontormo-Burg zwischen Florenz und Pisa. Nachdem sie im 13. Jahrhundert nach Florenz gezogen waren, mussten zwei Zweige aufgrund der Kämpfe der Welfen und Ghibellinen ins Exil, indem sie Platz nahmen, einer in Bologna und der andere in Modena. Das Manzoli-Haus wurde diesem von vielen Konservativen der Regentschaft gegeben, und einer von ihnen, Girolamo, unterzeichnete 1542 die berühmte Glaubensform, die Papst Paul III.
