Cette famille avait sa résidence au Borg-Saint-Andéol, elle posséda la terre de Bel, sur la rive gauche du Rhône, vis-à-vis de Saint-Montan. Sa filiation commence à noble Rostaing Maroan, nommé dans le testament de son fils Jacques, en 1257. M. Louis Aurenche donne, dans la Revue du Vivarais 1905, d'interessantes notes sur cette maison qui possédait, en 1285, deux portions du fief de Martinais et, en 1443, la coseigneurie d'Aramon. En 1543, Claude Maroan, écuyer, est qualifié, dans son testament, de seigneur de Bel, coseigneur de Saint-Marcel, Saint-Just, Saint-Montan, Cousignac, il nomme sa femme, Béatrix de Guerre, et ses enfants. Geneviève, fille aînée de Claude et de Béatrix, fut appelée, par suite du dèces de son frère Anthoine, à recueillir la fortune de sa masion. Elle épousa, le 8 février 1544, Louis d'Arlempde de Mirabel; veuve, vers 1570, elle se remaria, par contrat du 4 juin 1588, à Jean-Baptiste de Forlivio, docteur ès droits, de la ville d'Avignon. La maison Maroan, ancienne et très importante au Borg-Saint-Andéol, dont les membres sont qualifiés de damoiseau au XIIIème siècle, donna, en 1414, un bailli du Bourg-Saint-Andéol; en 1445, un bailli général et châtelain de la ville du Bourg, des consuls de la même ville, etc. Le 28 janvier 1434, noble Jean Maroan et son fils, du Bourg-Saint-Andéol, rendirent hommage à Giraud Adhémar pour tout ce qu'ils possédaient en terroir et mandement d'Aps.
