Linaje noble y antiguo. Algunos autores opinan que es originario de Francia. Es lo cierto que en la región catalana hubo varias casas solariegas de M.: Una, en la ciudad de Barcelona, de la que procedió Melchor M., que pasó a establecerse en Peñiscola, ciudad histórica del partido judicial de Vinaroz (Castellón de la Plana). Dicho caballero tuvo un hijo llamado Baltasar M., del que procedió Luis M. que a principios del siglo XVIII era regidor de Peñiscola y se distinguió defendiendo a la ciudad contra los austiacos. Por esta defensa, Felipe V le otorgó priviliegio de nobleza. Posteriormente, su hijo Baltasar M. fue agraciando con el título de barón de Casa-Blanca, por Real carta de 2 de febrero de 1791, del rey Carlos IV. El 18 de septiembre de 1839 sucedió, en el mencionado título de barón de Casa-Blanca, José M. y Giner, y el 5 de noviembre de 1859, Arcadia M. y Grau. El 27 de febrero de 1776 se hizo asiento del título de Barón de Canyelles a favor de doña María Raimunda Minguella, y el 10 de octubre de 1771 se había hecho igual asiento del título de barón de la Blanca a favor de Bernardo M. y de Prat. Otra casa catalana de M., originaria de Francia, radicó en el lugar de Balsereny, del obispado de Vic; en Tortosa y otras en las villas de Tamarit, del partido judicial de Tarragona, y de Pont de Armentera, del partido judicial de Valls, de la misma provincia. A la primera de dichas casas perteneció Juan Antonio M. y Planell, que casó con doña Cecilia Fontanelles. Otra casa muy antigua. Linaje noble y antiguo oriundo de Francia. Hubo en la región catalana varias casas solariegas de M.; en Barcelona, capital; en Vic, en Tortosa y en Tamarit, de Tarragona; en Pont de Armentera y otras villas. Entre los caballeros M. que vinieron a España, desde Francia, figura Berenguer M. que, acaudillando gente del vizconde de Bearne, tomó parte en la conquista de Mallorca.
