Linaje catalán, con casa solar en la villa de M. (cuyo nombre tomó), del partido judicial de Sant Feliu de Llobregat (Barcelona). Pasó a la ciudad de Morella (Castellón), y se extendió por Valencia e Islas Baleares. De la primitiva casa de la villa de M. procedió Jaime M., de noble alcurnia, que fue tronco de la rama de M. que se extendió por Valencia, fundando nueva casa en la ciudad de Játiva, y más tarde en la de Denia (Alicante). Dicho caballero sirvió con gran acierto en la conquista de Valencia, adquiriendo renombre de valiente, según Jaime Febrer, pues apenas descubrían los moros su divisa, huían amedrentados. Jaime I, enterado de su valor, quiso informarse de su ascendencia, y averiguó que era de noble sangre. También se distinguió por el valor con que combatía a los moros un hijo del mencionado Jaime, llamado Arnaldo M. Otro caballero, Juan M., que también tomó parte en la conquista de Valencia, pereció estando sobre el Puig defendiendo su puesto como buen vasallo. Un hijo suyo, émulo de las acciones del padre, quedó como cabo de una cuadrilla de almogávares, los cuales, bien unidos, fueron continua polilla de los sarracenos, según frase de Jaime Febrer, arrebatándoles cuanto podían. El rey don Jaime I le mandó a poblar Puzol, villa que hoy pertence al partido judicial de Sagunto, y que con la máquina del fenebol pasase a Valencia.
