Antica ed assai nobile famiglia italiana, originaria della città marchigiana di Ostra, un tempo conosciuta come Montalboddo, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Mondo. Secondo quanto riportato dallo storico ed araldista Vittorio Spreti (San Severino Marche, 2 gennaio 1887 - Milano, 22 novembre 1950) i Menchetti sono un ramo del nobile casato Menchi che, nel XV secolo, ha mutato il nome in Menchetti. Per tal ragione la nobiltà della famiglia può essere fatta risalire sino al 1200 ossia sin da quando i suoi esponenti hanno ricoperto posizioni che erano esclusivo appannaggio della classe nobile. Lo studioso Fontana ritiene invece che i Menchetti siano invero originari dell'Albania da dove avrebbero trovato rifugio in Montalboddo, sempre nel XV secolo, per ragioni politiche.
