En el Principado de Cataluña. Aunque en el libro de repartimiento de Mallorca no se hace mención de esta familia, es opinión muy autorizada que se halló en la conquista de la isla. Bernardo Mercer, natural de Tortosa, y doña María, su mujer, por instrumento de 10 de las calendas de diciembre de 1233, en poder de Bernardo Artes, notario, vendieron a Guillermo de Bolmeno y a Elías Baster, una casa en la ciudad de Palma, sita en la calle de la Acequia, que poseían como donatarios de Guillermo de Moncada. Conquistada la isla de Mallorca por el rey don Pedro IV de Aragón trató de fortificarla, para defenderla de su legítimo rey don Jaime III de Mallorca, y a este efecto mandó armar quince galeras, nombrando vicealmirante de ellas a Mateo Mercer caballero mallorquín. Miguel Mercer en 1450, fue jurado de la ciudad y reino de Mallorca; Jaime Mercer lo fue en 1456, y Bernardo Mercer en 1565. De esta misma familia fueron conselleres: Jaime Mercer, en 1463; Francisco Mercer en 1476 y 1481; Bernardo Mercer, en 1492, 1503, 1506, 1514 y 1533; Juan Marcer, en 1500; Gabriel Mercer, en 1545, 1549 y 1553; Miguel Mercer en 1554, y un tercer Bernardo Mercer, en 1559. ...
