I nomi dei Morchio sono ricordati in testi, atti notarili e contratti di acquisto di terre e case fin da tempi molto antichi. Vennero da Varazze e si trapiantarono in Genova nel 1350 circa. Un Tommaso, quondam Nicolò, quondam Giovanni, fu anziano negli anni 1360-69-70-78-84, ufficiale di guerra, nel 1367; consigliere della Repubblica, 1368; ammiraglio di 10 galee, 1371, e ambasciatore al re di Sicilia, nel 1373. Tommaso, quondam Tommaso, anziano 1400. Oberto nel 1432. Pietro, capitano del popolo, 1478, fu uno dei 12 riformatori della Repubblica, 1489. Tommaso, quondam Oberto, medico eccellente, pubblicò le opere di Arnaldo da Villanova, con dedica al conte Gian-Luigi Fieschi il vecchio, 1505. Essi furono iscritti nei Giustiniani, nel 1528.
