Antichissimo casato, oriundo dalla Germania, detto Onigo o Oniga, il cui capostipite, militando sotto i vessilli dell'imperatore, venne in Italia. I discendenti si stabilirono in Treviso, ove si riscontrano aggregati, a quel nobil Consiglio, sin dal 1460. Da tempo remoto tal famiglia era insignita del titolo di Conte, probabilmente per concessione degli Imperatori; titolo che fu riconosciuto dalla Repubblica Veneta, con ducale 12 febbraio 1795. La famiglia ebbe, poi, a titolo di Feudo, i monti dei Fosserenga e di Miesna, nella Valla di Primiero nel Tirolo, in forza di investitura, ottenuta da S.M. l'imperatore Francesco, il dì 9 ottobre 1792.
