En opinión de algunos autores, este linaje procede del de Guevara. Es antiguo y noble. Se extendió por Vizcaya, Castilla y Aragón. Cuenta una leyenda que un doncel llamado Sancho O. figuró entre doce caballeros godos que en la mañana de un lunes fueron convidados a comer por el Rey. Al ir a levantarse de la mesa, el Monarca les anunció que al día siguiente, martes, se había de dar una gran batalla, y que en ella se vería cual de los doce era el más esforzado. Entonces Sancho O. u Hortuño, exclamó: "¡Morir, pero no huir!" El Rey le repuso: "Esas son palabras de honor". Al día siguiente, Sancho O., enardecido por la palabras de su Soberano, luchó tan valientemente, que logró cortar la cabeza a cinco moros. En la villa de Espinar (Segovia), moró una familia de este apellido, de la que fué Francisco O., natural de Espinar, que en su esposa doña Jerónima Ramírez, natural de la villa de Uclés (Cuenca), tuvo a José Manuel O. Ramírez, natural de Sevilla, que contrajo matrimonio con doña Teresa Paula de Rueda Valverde, natural de Uclés (hija de Francisco de Rueda, natural del lugar de Villaminaya, de la provincia de Toledo, y de doña Josefa Teodora Valverde, natural de Uclés), naciendo de esa unión Agustín O. Rueda Ramírez, natural de Nápoles y Caballero de la Orden de Calatrava, en la que ingresó el 7 de septiembre de 1750.
