Noblesse chevaleresque, encore representée dans la Nièvre, l'Allier et en Auvergne, remontant sa filiation suivie à Pierre, écuyer, seigneur de la Rousse, marié en 1498 à Françoise du Chassaing. Un membre de cette maison ayant été admis sur preuves de quatre générations au chapitre de Brioude dès 1490, il en resulte que sa noblesse remontait beaucoup plus haut. Substituée au XVème siècle aux de la Rousse admis eux-mêmes au chapitre de Brioude depuis 1298. Maintenue noble le 30 avril 1668, sur preuves remontant à 1527.
