Nobility crown PeteaniLa famiglia appare nella seconda metà del 500, con un Antonio, che vi possedeva dei terreni e che nel 1619 era già morto. Nel secolo XVII, forse a causa della distribuzione del natio villaggio di Peteano durante la guerra fra la repubblica veneta e l'Impero, essa trasferì la propria residenza a Farra presso l'Isonzo. Quivi cresciuta in beni di fortuna, ottenne dalla comunità di Aquileia, con diploma 15 aprile 1789 l'aggregazione alla nobiltà cittadina nelle persone dei fratelli rev. Michele, Valentino, Mattia e Giuseppe, coi discendenti maschi e femmine. Il diploma esiste in copia autentica preso la contessa Concitta Peteani Attemis in Cervignano. Nel 1792, 2 giugno, l'elettore Carlo Teodoro di Baviera conferiva da Monaco a Giuseppe Peteani "nobili aquilejensi de Farra" ed ai fratelli Michele, Valentino e Mattia la nobiltà e i cavalierato del S.R.I. Nel 1790 i Peteani ricevettero conferma della loro nobiltà e l'aggiunta dell'aquila alla torre della loro arma. Nel 1795, agli 11 di giugno, Francesco I da Vienna concedeva ai suddetti fratelli Giuseppe, Michele, Mattia e Valentino il predicato di Steinberg, li elevava alla condizione di recht und geborene Ritter, e al loro cimiero, ne aggiungeva un secondo: l'aquila di nero rivoltata. Nell'anno 1813, 1 febbraio Giovanni Peteani di Steinberg otteneva dall'imperatore Francesco I l'incolato di Boemia, della Moravia e della Slesia. Con diploma 29 gennaio 1853 (e 14 febbraio) Gio. Batta Peteani, preposto della metropolitana di Olmutz (n. 1779, dec. 1862), decorato della Corona di Ferro di II classe, otteneva il titolo di libero e lo stemma ora usato dalla famiglia. Nel 1857 il prestito Gio. Batta suddetto che titolo e stemma concessigli passassero al nipote Ferdinando i.r. capitano di cavalleria; ciò che con diploma 14 febbr. di quell'anno veniva accordato. Ma mancando anche questi di prole maschile, con diploma 16 agosto 1908 titolo e stemma passarono al nipote Arturo i.r. genarale. Va ricordato un don Mattia Peteani, vicario e bibliotecario alla real corte di Monaco di Baviera. Inquartato: nel primo d'oro all'aquila coronata di nero carica in cuore della mezzaluna montante d'argento; nel secondo di rosso alla croce patriarcale d'argento; nel terzo di azzurro alla torre di due palchi d'argento, aperta e finestrata di nero; nel quarto d'oro al leone di nero, coronato del campo. Sul tutto partito di rosso alla fascia d'oro, e d'oro pieno (Diploma 29 gennaio 1853, riconoscimento D.M. 5 aprile 1926).
