Nobility crown PicchianiQuesto cognome, che ancora si conserva fra il popolo, è noto a Roma fino dal XIV secolo. I Picchiani, primari cittadini, avevano il sepolcro nella chiesa di S. Lorenzo in Damaso. Soltanto nel XVI secolo appaiono con la qualifica di nobilis. Un rogito del 1585 ne dimostra la condizione nobile: "...Magnificus dominus Hieronymus Picchianus f. qm. b. m. Ludovici Picchiani nobilis romani...". Questa famiglia ha dir dello storico Amayden era sicuramente comprese tra quelle raccolte nel Libro d'oro del Campidoglio. Dalla bibliografia documentata sui manoscritti Vaticani, può rilevarsi il numero relativamente esiguo delle memorie riguardanti le famiglie romane. Se si tralasciano le fonti sospette del Ceccarelli, del Fanusio e del Metallino, le cui favole furono in parte accettate dallo Iacovacci, ci rimane il repertorio vastissimo di quest'ultimo.
