The family was originally known as Pittella but variations such as Pittelli and Pittello are very common. The clear nobility of this House is confirmed by the presence of its blazon in the most renowned Italian armorial bearings and in the state archives of Sicily. This family, as confirmed by the genealogist, journalist and Italian heraldist Goffredo di Crollalanza (Fermo, 19 February 1855 - Bari, 17 January 1905) has been among the noble Houses of Messina since the XV century.
