Esta familia, noble y antigua, es originaria de Cataluña y se extendió por los reinos de Valencia, Mallorca y Aragón. De sus caballeros, que siempre fueron muy estimados de los reyes por sus merecimientos, hace especial mención mosén Jaime Febrer en sus Trovas; el doctor Menescal en el Abecedario de los linajes del Principado de Cataluña, y otros historiadores y cronistas. De Cataluña pasó a la conquista de Valencia Guillermo P., de quien dice mosén Jaime Febrer que el rey aragonés don Jaime I le llevó a la de Mallorca y que varias veces escapó dicho Monarca de algunos peligros por acompañarle Guillermo P. Este fue padre de Benito P., que durante el sitio de Polop hizo caer los moros en una emboscada logrando le rendición de aquel pueblo. A la muerte de don Jaime I de Aragón, en 1395, tuvo el gobierno de aquella Corona Guillermo P., juntamente con don Iñigo de Valterra, arzobispo de Tarragona. Sucedió entonces en el reino el rey don Martín, que andaba en las guerras de Sicilia, y mientras vino a coronarse fueron ambos personajes los mejores consejores de su mujer, la reina doña María. En las guerras de Sicilia y Cerdeña se distinguió, por aquellos años, mosén Nicolás P., así como en el desempeño de algunas importantes embajadas. El rey don Martín, en 1397, le hizo baile general de Valencia, y en 1405 le invió por ambajador al rey moro de Granada para acordar una tregua.
