Este ilustre y noble linaje es muy antiguo en Cataluña. Algún autor dice que su primitivo origen lo tuvo en le Empordá, pero, sin duda, procede de la villa de Santa Coloma de Q. (cuyo segundo nombre tomaron por apellido) perteneciente al partido judicial de Montblanc y provincia de Tarragona. De la casa solar de Q., en dicha villa, referiremos más adelante una sintética genealogía. Otra casa de este linaje radicó en la Pobla de Sales (Urgel), en la provincia deLérida, y en su iglesia parroquial tenía capilla propia, la de Santa Catalina. Prueba la antigüedad de los Q. catalanes la destacada intervención de algunos de sus caballeros en la conquista del reino de Valencia en servicio del rey aragonés don Jaime I, así como las fechas en que vistieron el hábito de la Orden de San Juan, en el Gran Priorato de Cataluña. Arnaldo Q. fue en esa Orden comendador de Alguayre y de Cervera-Ametlla, en 1289; en Espluga de Francolí, en 1284-1290, y de Vilafranca del Penedés, en 1295. Doña Inés Q. fallecida en 27 de octubre de 1310, fue priora. Otros caballeros y señoras Q. ingresaron en la misma Orden en los siglos XVI y XVII. También tiene mucha antigüedad este linaje en los reinos de Valencia y Murcia, adonde lo llevaron los caballeros catalanes que sirvieron en su conquista al rey don Jaime I de Aragón. ...
