Don Servando, obispo de Orense, confesor que fué del rey Don Rodrigo, último de los monarcas godos, y del príncipe Don Pelayo, en su Libro de linages afirma que procede este apellido Reyes de Claudio Clemente de R., noble caballero de la sangre mas elevada de Roma, que floreció por los años de 230 y fué padre de Santa Claudia Regina. Rodrigo Mendez de Silva, en la Genealogía del capitan de caballos corazas Don Luis García de R., pone el primitivo solar de estos caballeros en las montañas de Burgos. Pero los datos y noticias de algun peso y consistencia tocante a este noble linage, empiezas en Gomez de R., que floreció por años de 611, reinando Gundemaro, y fué señor de la casa y torre de Bocirios, camino de Chantada, solar entonces secundario. Fué su hijo García de R., que fundó nueva casa solariega en un eminente cerro llamado Altamira, hácia la parte de Noya, el cual tuvo por hijo o nieto a Gonzalo de R., uno de los inclitos guerreros que sirvieron a Don Pelayo en su heróica empresa contra los moros. Poco despues se distinguió Nuño de R. al servicio del rey Don Alonso el Casto, y fué uno de los doce caballeros escogidos de elevada sangre para una cofradía que con el tiempo fué erigida en órden militar de Santiago. Pasaron los hijos de esta antigua e ilustre familia a Galicia, León y Andalucía con motivo de las guerras y conquistas de los moros, y despues a los descubrimientos de América, siendo memorables en unas y otras regiones. ...
