Starting from the analysis of the coats of arms registered in the most authoritative heraldry books, we identify three main households: the one that originated in Ravenna and spread to Germany and Dalmatia; the other who moved from Liguria to Germany and even earlier to the Benevento area, where it had the marquis title; a third who flourished nobly in Sicily and Sardinia. The origins of the Rotondo family in Ravenna are very ancient, probably prior to the 14th century, but their fragmentation makes a complete narration impossible.
