Antica famiglia siciliana, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, con residenza nella città di Messina, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di molti genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata nel nome arabo libanese "Saev" o, al dir di altri, nel nome slavo "Sajev"; entrambi, comunque, corruzioni del nome ebraico "Isaiah", probabilmente, appartenuto ad un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. Tal casato, inoltre, in ogni epoca, sempre riuscì a distinguersi, grazie agli elevati personaggi, a cui diede i natali. Tra questi, ricordiamo: Giorgio, giudice straticoziale in Messina nel 1593-94; Giuseppe, annotato nella mastra nobile del Mollica; Michele, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Messina, nel 1676; Francesco, dottore in legge; Gaetano, Giuseppe e Luigi, figli di Antonino, ascritti alla mastra nobile di Messina, del 1798-1807; D.
