Illustre casata italiana, con i maggiori insediamenti in territorio laziale, di chiara ed avita virtù, sorta dall'unione, probabilmente per via matrimoniale, di due nobili famiglie: i Salate ed i Santone. I primi vuolsi siano di origine veneta ma ivi giunti dalla Toscana. Una antica leggenda narra infatti che questa famiglia si portò in Venezia nel XVI secolo per ragioni di commercio. Nel tempo essa accrebbe le proprie ricchezze e diede i natali a molti uomini che si dedicarono alla navigazione, specialmente lungo la costa dalmata, dove ebbero una grande intraprendenza commerciale. E proprio in Dalmazia la famiglia fu elevata alla nobiltà ma il suo originario cognome fu mutato primieramente in Salata ed infine in Salatich; forma cognominale, quest'ultima, con cui si trova presente negli Armoriali. Il blasone è stato ricostruita da uno stemma scolpito in pietra d'istria del XV secolo presente nel Palazzo Pianetti in via XV Settembre, 10, Jesi (AN), attribuito alla famiglia dalla Soprintendenza per i Beni Storici Artistici ed Etnoantropologici delle Marche nel 1979.
D'argento, al leone di rosso, alle due cotisse d'oro attraversanti in croce di S.Andrea, il bordo inferiore merlato rovesciato di due. Elmo coronato. Cimiero: le armi dello scudo uscenti.
