Maison illustré par Amédée dit le cardinal de Saluces, seigneur de plusieurs terres en Dauphiné, chanoine-comte et archidiacre de St-Jean de Lyon, évêque de Valence (1383), créé cardinal la même année, doyen du chapitre de N.-D. du Puy en 1410. Ce prélat assista en 1409 au concile de Pise et en 1414 à celui de Constance, où il eut 12 voix pour être pape. Il fut envoyé par Martin V comme légat en France et mourut le 28 juin 1419. On le dit fils de Frédéric, marquis de Saluces et de Béatrix de Genève. Sa famille, maison souveraine de la haute Italie avait aussi de grandes possessions en Dauphiné. Elle a pour tige Guillaume, comte d'Italie, vivant en 910. Alliés à plusieurs races princières, les de Saluces ont produit une foule de grands personnages et se sont éteints avec substitution dans les de Lur dits, depuis, marquis de Lur-Saluces en Limousin et Bordelais. Pierre, doyen du chapitre de N.-D. du Puy, avant le cardinal de Saluces et Georges revêtu après lui de cette dignité, avaient la même origine. La distinction familiale représentée ici sous forme de blason, survit à travers les siècles grâce à des précieux témoignages qui nous ont permis de rapporter les exploits et les gestes de cette noble famille. ...
