Nobility crown SanmartinLas familias así apellidadas proceden de distintas casas solares que radicaron en diversas regiones de España. Uno de los más rancios solares del apellido S. estaba sito en el Valle de Somorrostro, entre los pueblos de San Juan de Somorrostro y San Julián de Muzquiz, del partido judicial de Valmaseda, a pocos kilómetros de Bilbao. Lope García de Salazar hace particular memoria de ese solar, del que procedió la importante rama que creó nueva casa en la villa de Portugalete (que también pertenece al partido judicial de Valmaseda y está cercana a Bilbao), y otras se extendieron por las Encartaciones de Vizcaya y pasaron a las Vascongadas y Navarra. Esas dos casas vizcaínas merecen especial mención porque de la de Somorrostro era originario el fundador de la del mismo apellido en la ciudad de Ubeda (Jaén), y de la de Portugalete salió el progenitor de la familia S. en el Virreinato del Río de la Plata. Muy principal fué la casa de S. radicada en la villa de Laredo. A ella pertenecía en fines del siglo XVII y principios del XVIII El Capitán Diego de S. Ocina, marido de doña Manuela Escata y Ocina, ambos naturales de Laredo y padres de Martín S. y Ocina, que sigue, y Francisco S. Escata y Ocina, natural de Laredo, Señor de la casa de Ocina, del Consejo de Su Majestad en el real de la Cruzada, Caballero de la Orden de Calatrava en la que se cruzó en el año 1666, y Tesorero General de las Ordenes Militares. Casó en Madrid con doña Agueda Francisca de Ortega. ...
