Desde tiempos muy antiguos radicó la familia aragonesa así apellidada y de la que rara vez hacen mención los genealogistas y heraldistas de Aragón, en el pueblo de Albella, del partido judicial de Boltaña y provincia de Huesca. Pero en opinión de don Feliciano Paraíso Gil, muy versado en el estudio de linajes aragoneses, antes de residir los S. Román en Albella habían tenido su asiento en el lugar de San Román de Basa (del que tomaron el apellido o sobrenombre), perteneciente al Ayuntamiento de Sardas y partido judicial de Jaca, en la misma provincia. En Albella fueron siempre tenidos y reputados por infanzones, y su casal, cuya fachada ostentaba el escudo, confrontaba con casas de Miguel Felices, patios de la de Antonio Capalvo y calle pública. Ya en el año de 1500 era Señor de dicho casal Martín S. Román, natural y vecino de Albella, casado con doña María Ximénez, de quien tuvo estos hijos: Juan S. Román Ximénez, que sigue, y Pedro S. Román Ximénez, que formó la rama de este apellido en la villa de Sieso de Huesa, del partido judicial de Huesca. Juan S. Román Ximénez sucedió en el casal y posesiones de sus padres y residió toda su vida en Albella. Contrajo matrimonio con doña Ana Maza, naciendo de esta unión Francisco S. Román y Maza, que heredó el casal y nació y vivió en Albella dedicado a la agricultura. En su mujer, doña María Villanueva, tuvo, entre otros hijos, a Juan Francisco S. Román y Villanueva, que sucedió a sus padres en el casal y posesiones. ...
