His descendants lived first in Eraclea, then in Malamocco, ruling those populations as tribunes. The first doge of Venice Paolo-Lucio Anafesto, elected in 697, is said to belong to this family. Marco Sanuto, who was captain of the sea in 1100, became master of some islands, was elected Duke of the Aegean Sea and created King of Candia, then invested with all his descendants of the islands of Naxos, Pario, Milo, Marine and Andri.
