Nobilissimo casato bolognese, i cui antichi natali sono testimoniati dall'Alidosi, nell'opera "Armi di Famiglie", ove si riporta come, in certi annali, si rilevi che la famiglia Scarsella venne in Italia "col Magno Ottone, un conte Braù, di Branca, de' signori della Tezana". Sempre l'Alidosi, narra che, nel 1350 circa, viveva un Pietro, di Matteo d'Accarisio della Tezana, il quale fu detto "dalle Scarselle". Costui fu capitano di gran conto ed andò ambasciatore a Carlo IV, dal quale fu fatto cavaliere. Da Pietro, di Matteo, discende Domenico, vivente nel 1387; da Domenico discende Antonio (1445), che prese in moglie Tadea Cattani, la quale in un rogito del 1448, si dichiara vedova del nobile Antonio Scarselli, cittadino bolognese. Questi lasciò due figli Alessandro e Domenico, che non ebbe discendenza.
